Yogurt is a favorite snack that is able to be consumed for all ages. Many people love the yogurt because the freshness and the benefits for health. In addition it contains low fat and even no fat at all, yogurt without sugar is safe to eat well for diabetics. So in order to avoid wrong choice, we need special tips on choosing the right yogurt.
1. Check the calories per serving and the size
Each of yogurt packaging does not mean have the same calories size. One package contains an average of 70-230 calories with a size range from 4 to 8 ounces. There’s even a yogurt that contains few calories, only 3 ounces. So if you want to reduce your calorie intake, choose low-calorie yogurt.
2. Knowing the sugar content
Rather than focusing on the number of grams of sugar in yogurt, see a list of its content. Because, sometimes yogurt also contain lactose and natural sugar in milk products. If considered, sugar derived from lactose and other sources, it was like fruit.
If you choose a fruit yogurt, make sure that in addition to fruit or fruit juice, you do not get more than one other added sugar, such as naturally milled organic sugar. If you find a yogurt with two additional sugars, such as high fructose corn syrup, you better choose the type of yogurt without sugar.
3. Choose low saturated fat
Most yogurt is a major source of fat. But by examining the amount of saturated fat in its serving, it can help you to reduce your fat intake. Moreover, saturated fats are bad for your heart. If forced to buy the yogurt that have saturated fat content, try to choose yogurt with saturated fat content of less than 2 grams per serving.
4. Choose which contain calcium
Yogurts contains varying levels of calcium, about 10 to 40 percent of the Daily Value (DV) per serving. That means, all the yogurt is considered as a source of nutrition for bone. Greek yogurt and soybean varieties tend to have low calcium servings.
However, Greek yogurt is thicker, more creamy and provide more protein. While soy yogurt provide different benefits for non-preferred alternative based on good milk.
If yogurt is the main option for getting calcium, check levels of calcium in each package, so you can be sure to get calcium intake from each yogurt you eat.
5. Try buying organic
Although all are generally nutritious yogurt, there are also some who provided the material non-nutrients such as artificial color, artificial flavor and artificial sweetener. The point is if your body does not need it, why it should be eaten?
The easiest way to avoid materials that do not need is to choose an organic brand if you know it. That means they also produced without antibiotics, synthetic growth hormones or dangerous pesticides and fertilizers. It would be better for your health and more environmentally friendly.
